Investigating a New Method-Based Internal Joint Operation Law for Optimizing the Performance of a Turbocharger Compressor

A well-matched relationship between the compressor and turbine plays an important role in improving turbocharger engine performance. However, matching of engine, internal operation is not considered comprehensively. In order to fill this gap, paper proposed joint law (IJOL) method based on operating characteristics using a combination experimental simulation methods. On basis, optimization was proposed. Firstly, according basic conditions turbocharger, power consumption effective at fixed speed were solved. Secondly, curve coupled obtain balance point turbocharger. Then, solved IJOL method. Finally, used optimize blade number tip profile compressor. The results showed that for number, 8-blade had best overall For profile, compared with original compressor, surge performance impeller inlet diameter reduced by 3.12% better than addition, compare different structures, 1D model constructed GT-Power. maximum torque corresponding designed 4.2% higher minimum brake specific fuel 3.1% lower. Therefore, traditional method, reasonable practical.
